Birds attached to wires in the park
Blue skies are only a reflection

Is it a hobby or fixation
That keeps us all from saying what we mean?
They loved you speaking words so solemn
Payed you- no we call em poetry

The waterworks behind the rainbows
Weren't known to stain clothes; you were safe
Waiting a while in the restroom
The hours you'd invest to look okay

It was hush, hush around the household
But, god, it was a hassle to ignore
Things would be different now, believe me
But these lives aren't easy to explore

You self explored and refused to matador all of life's bullshit
We don't discuss that now but it's on my mind

We lost your tender twenty one years
In a half an hour excursion to the store
Your colors made the walls look festive
Mother dropped our breakfast to the floor

We stayed in most of the next weekend
I felt like I was grounded- oh how cruel
I was to young to want to sit out
Or wonder why you'd kick out your own stool

And it must be somewhere in the pantry
I hear mama cry and it never suits father's fancy
It was no crime but dammit, man, it was selfish
